The
Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology was established
in 1950 as an
Acta Physiologica Polonica by the Polish Physiological
Society. This publication is a international, peer-reviewed scientific journal
that publishes original papers, short communications, and reviews dealing with
basic and applied physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology. The Polish Physiological
Society publishes it bimonthly in one volume a year, both in printed and electronic
format. The printed version is available to subscribers and the full text e-version
is provided as open access (
www.jpp.krakow.pl).
The
Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology is indexed in many international
databases, for example in Medline, Embase, Scopus and Biosis.

e-mailed to the Journal's Editorial Office located at the Department of Physiology,
Jagiellonian University Medical College, 16 Grzegorzecka Street, 31-531 Krakow,
Poland; e-mail:
redjpp@cm-uj.krakow.pl.
The manuscript should be prepared in two formats:

2. Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format - the manuscript with figures and tables mounted as one pdf file.
Authors have also to submit a full version of revised manuscript in two formats (first in Word with figures and tables in separate files and the second format in one pdf file with all figures and tables attached at the end of the text).
The manuscript handling fee is 800 EUR or in Polish currency 3500 PLN and should be sent along with the manuscript submission. The fee is not refundable and is not contingent on acceptance of the paper. Papers accepted by the Journal must not be published elsewhere, without prior written permission of the Editorial Office.
A cover letter must be included and signed by the corresponding author and
must state that the data being presented to the journal has not been published
elsewhere in whole and in part (except abstract), and that all authors agree
to publish the work in the Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology.
There are no restrictions on the length of manuscripts submitted or on the number of figures or tables. Articles should be written clearly, concisely and with the number of figures and tables kept to the minimum necessary to illustrate the hypothesis being tested. However, authors may be asked to reduce the length of the manuscript or the number of figures.
Original papers should contain the following sections in the order listed:
title page, summary, key words, introduction, material and methods, results,
discussion, acknowledgements (optional) and/or source of funds, a statement
regarding conflict of interests, references, and tables and/or figures with

The title page should include the name(s) of the author(s) with initials
and the affiliation(s) of the author(s) included in the address of the department
or laboratory where the work was performed, and the title of the manuscript.
Each author should contribute to writing the paper and take responsibility for
a particular section of the study. The title should indicate clearly the subject
matter of the paper. If possible, please avoid specialist abbreviations in the
titles.
Summary: The paper must include a precise summary with no more than 300
words and should concisely present the hypothesis being tested, the general
methods, results and conclusions. References may not be cited in the summary.
Materials and Methods: When conducting experiments on animals, authors
should follow the institutions or the National Research Council's guidelines
for the care and use of laboratory animals. When conducting scientific research
on humans or human tissue, researchers should follow procedures that are in
accordance with the ethical standards of the latest revision of the Helsinki
Declaration. The
Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology requires authors
to affirm that original studies reported in the Journal have been carried out
in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and/or with the guidelines for
the care and use of laboratory animals that is accepted by properly appointed
Ethics Committees. The editors reserve the right to reject papers if there is
doubt as to whether suitable experimental procedures were used.
Lists of materials, chemicals and equipment, and an explanation of procedures may be given as separately headed paragraphs. The details of conducting experiments should be sufficient to allow the work to be repeated by others.
Discussion: The discussion should not merely recapitulate the results.
Authors should provide a conclusion to their work and express an opinion on
the relevance of the results in the context of other works cited in the paper.
Acknowledgements: The wording of acknowledgements must have been accepted
by the persons concerned. Authors should provide the source of their funding.

EDITORIAL AND REVIEWING PROCEDURE
All categories of papers are subjected to the same peer-review procedure. Manuscripts that are received for consideration are first examined by the editors of the Journal. Papers out of scope and with insufficient priority for publication are rejected promptly. The remaining papers are subjected to anonymous evaluations by two or three independent reviewers. Reviewers are given three weeks to complete their reviews. Authors have to submit revised manuscript within a designated period of time and it must contain the complete paper in two formats (first in Word with figures and tables in separate files and the second format in one pdf file with all figures and tables attached at the end of the text) and with itemized list of all changes made in response to each of the reviewer suggestions in the form of point-by-point letters, or a rebuttal to the comments made by each reviewer. Revised manuscript undergoes repeated evaluation by the same reviewers. The authors cannot enter into discussion with the editor with regards to papers that are rejected as being unsuitable for publication, and the editors decision of rejection is final. The authors whose papers have been accepted for publication will receive an e-mail message about the acceptance of their manuscripts for publication. The galley proof is in pdf file and will be e-mailed to them for making corrections, too. The substantial changes in proof will not be accepted.
